To EVERYONE at Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital: I have to once more tell you all how much you have meant to both Mr. Spot and myself. While some dogs get excited going to the beach, ever since I brought Mr. Spot to Oakhurst as an 8 week old puppy 13 years ago his biggest excitement in life has been going to the kennel. (The beach never really fazed him. Some people say the word "beach!" to get their dog all excited, I would say the words "the kennel" to get the same reaction.) |
When he was younger, on his way over in the car Mr Spot would start pawing at the dashboard, whining and carrying on in his eagerness to get there..it would start when we were still in Deal on Norwood Avenue and reach its crescendo when I pulled in to the parking lot. He would literally leap over me, and out of the driver's side door, in his hurry to get inside. It truly was like a dog who loves the beach. In his old age, he would placidly lie in the passenger seat on his way over and I'd lift him out of the car. Yet, even on days when he wasn't walking well, he would still be excited enough when he got there to always be able to walk across the parking lot and come in on his own power. The Cary Grant of Canines insisted on making a dignified entrance to the very end. His relationship with all of you has always been an extraordinary thing. I've asked that when his ashes are returned that they be placed outside of Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital in the place where he would be walked outside in his later years. Oakhurst was simply his favorite place to go -- his beach-- and I could think of no better place to distribute his ashes. Thank you all so very much for adding so much to my dog's life. I will always drive by your place with the most wonderful memories of Mr. Spot. Love, Dan Jacobson |
To EVERYONE at Oakhurst Veterinary
Hospital, I’ve been meaning to write this letter for so
long. Well, tonight I am thinking the best way to pay tribute to my
cat Sam is to finally send it off. We (with your help) put Sam to rest tonight.
And while I was not there, I was told of your compassion, concern
and care. And I was not remotely surprised. People who love animals are their own special,
slightly zany breed. We all understand each other, speak the same
language, feel the same things. And we are unbearably demanding of
everyone who comes into remote touch with our pets. So several
years ago, when I moved here and first visited your office, I was
elated. It was immediately clear that this was not your average
veterinary office. I’d like to cite specifics about what makes you
all so special – but that’s the thing really – it is
that you all are so special. It is evident in all the big
things…and the little things. It is the professionalism, the
courtesy, the sincere interest and delight you show with all of our
assorted pets. It is the empathy in your eyes when things do not go
well, and the genuine joy you share when things do. I have visited many veterinary offices in the
last 20 years and I tell you this with some experience, you are
a rare and wonderful group of people. Your professionalism and
compassion (and patience!) have meant that world to me. Wonderful
ladies (one and all) who man the front desk, handle a zillion
details during multiple emergencies and still smile when I walk in
– what can I say? Thank you! To all the technicians who treated my
animals with such care – it mattered – it still does. Taking an
animal there was always an act of comfort, and that is an amazing
and terrific thing. So thank you all, from the bottom of my heart,
for all that you have done – and all you will do in the
future. God bless you
all. With my deepest appreciation and
respect, Robin Ryerson |
Dear Dr.
LoGiudice, I just wanted to take a
moment to thank you for all of your compassion and support. All the
while we were trying to get CoCo to overcome her illness you put up
with me and my constant phone calls, questioning what we could do
to help her. You are an amazing person and a wonderful doctor -
Coco was lucky to have you. Thank you for making that difficult
decision a bit easier. Knowing you were with us gave me a sense of
peace, because you have such a compassionate heart. With a grateful heart,
Karen Mazzola |

Dear Friends at
Oakhurst Vet, Thank you for taking
care of me when I got hurt on my walk. You are all very kind and
helpful friends. I hope I see you all soon, but only for a visit,
not because I am hurt. Thank you again,
"Bohdi" Iannicelli |
Dear Dr.
Delaney and all the medical staff, all the hospital staff, and all
the front desk staff, Thank you so much for all the
expert care you have given Bailey. We especially appreciate
everyone’s kindness and caring, Bailey loved the TLC. Thank you too
for being so patient and accommodating to all of us. The atmosphere
at Oakhurst is like a family and you made us feel so comfortable.
Thank you for being so nice! Love Bailey and the rest of
the Bermensolos. |

Dear Dr.
Doolen, We can’t thank you
enough for your amazing work with Rumi. You gave her back her life
and you mended our breaking hearts. She is recovering very well,
gaining weight, maintaining good blood sugar levels and being
playful and mischievous! Your warmth, care and expertise will
always be with us. Thank you so much,
Nikki & Brian Friedman |
Dr. Doolen and
Staff, Words cannot express
how fortunate we are to have you as Meisha’s vet. As you know, a
visit to the vet, or any doctor for that matter can cause stress.
But your knowledge and compassion always helps to alleviate those
feelings. Once again, thank you for taking such good care of
Meisha. You are the best! Sincerely, Jill
and Mickey Maito (and Meisha too!) |

Dear Dr.
Sikkes, I am one happy feline
now that I can hang up my hood. Thank you for all the good care and
tender treatment you gave me. Be sure to thank your assistants as
well. I will definitely recommend Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital to
all my friends in the neighborhood, except for the one that bit me.
You are one "purr"fect lady doctor. With much affection to

To The Staff of
Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital, Keiko wanted to thank
each and every one of you for taking such good care of him. He
received such loving people to look after him while he was sick. I
knew he was in good hands the moment I admitted him to the
hospital. You saved my puppy and I can’t thank each of you
enough. God Bless, James

Dear Dr. Doolen and
all the staff, Thank you so much for all the
attention and care you have given my ferret Bear over the last
couple of months. He lost both of his eyes due to lymphoma. The
understanding, patience, and knowledge of Dr. Doolen and the staff
was greatly appreciated by my husband and I during this difficult
time of surgeries and transition. Sincerely, Lisa and

Dear Dr.
LoGiudice, Addie and I would like to
thank you for taking the time to teach us how to give Addie her
insulin shots, and for easing my anxiety about doing so. It is
reassuring to know we have a doctor like you who is so caring and
dedicated. Thank you again. Sincerely, Addie and Tami

Dr. Danielle
Rawlins took care of my cat, Marvin, these past few months
through his diagnosis and subsequent treatment of lymphoma. Right
from the start, I appreciated the manner in which she explained
Marvin’s situation to me. She showed great compassion while
speaking to me in a candid and easy to understand manner. I knew
what was ahead in Marvin’s next couple of months and felt that she
guided me through the best possible plan we could to keep him
comfortable. I know how hard it is to
please people who are dealing with an emotional circumstance;
certainly one they never chose to have. Dr. Rawlins provided me
with the utmost professional, calm and wonderful customer service.
It helped me get through a very trying time. It would be remiss of me not
to mention your staff as well. From the Veterinary Assistants to
the Receptionists, ALL exemplify the most compassionate, helpful
and wonderful group of people that make your Veterinary Hospital
the best in the area. So, from the expert medical doctors to all of
your staff, I would take my pets to no other hospital!! Thank you! Sincerely, Kathy

To the Entire
Staff of the Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital, Words cannot express my
deep gratitude for all you have done for Riley and myself. The
quality of his life was greatly enhanced by the care you gave him
and the love you showed him when we came through the door. Riley
was a gift that some of us are lucky to have once in a lifetime and
I will cherish the fond and funny memories that he allowed us to
share. Thank you again for your heartfelt care and
concern. Fondly, Susan

Dear Dr. LoGiudice, Nikki, Lori and everyone else at Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital,
Words cannot express my thanks and gratitude to you for your
outstanding care and genuine compassion during and after Maggie's illness. Many
places can practice good medicine but it is very rare that you come across a
practice as warm and caring as yours. Visiting the vet was always one of
Maggie's favorite things (even when she was sick!) and you always made
her feel special and loved. Thank you for everything!
Sincerely, Carolyn Stack

The Staff of
Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital, We are eternally
grateful for the opportunity to have found Callie, our Princess.
Callie was a truly special friend and an integral part of our
family. When we lost her on March 29, 2005, our hearts ached. Yet,
when we looked back on the seven years we had with her, we realized
that not only did she enhance our lives, but we bettered hers, as
well. The staff of Oakhurst
Veterinary Hospital has, throughout the years, been invaluable in
her care. Your loving, caring and state of the art services were
vital in enabling us to have Callie for as long as we did, and we
are eternally grateful. Thank you all with all our
hearts. Jack and Kathy

I would like to commend
Lisa, she helped me with my Chihuahua, who was bitten by a tick. I
first noticed the tick on my 8-year-old male, "Cody," while I was
walking him near Seven Presidents Park. I never do this type of
thing, but I walked in to your hospital and asked for immediate
help, without an appointment & Cody wasn’t even one of your
regular patients! Anyway, Lisa consulted with one of your doctors,
explained what I was seeing and sold me the Frontline product to
keep it from happening again. I treated Cody per Lisa’s
instructions and he looks as good as new. I’m having his records
transferred from his former veterinarian in Point Pleasant to
Oakhurst. Lisa is a wonderful representative, the type of employee
that reminds me of the way vets used to be, when they cared more
about the patient than the money. Thanks again! Sincerely, Rose Ann Giaquinto and "Cody Megill" |

Dear
Sarah, I had to thank you as well as
Dr. Rawlins because you were so wonderful and patient with me being
upset today, and so sweet and gentle with Cheezer. I could not
stand to let him suffer anymore and you made him so comfortable
right away. I feel so fortunate to have had you there today. You
were especially kind to let me kiss him and hold him while he was
sleepy. Thanks again for being so very gentle and loving to
Cheezer. Sincerely, Donna Smith |

Dear Dr.
Doolen, I wanted to say thank
you for all of your care regarding my rabbits, Reuben and Tabby.
Especially Tab because she has such a terrible time with her mouth,
and I know that if it were not for you I would not be looking
at her sleeping comfortably with her tummy rolled up to the
sun while I write this. |
For other readers, Tabby is an older silver marten dwarf who
has a tooth grown all the way through her jawbone...she has
trouble with rapidly growing sharp teeth and excess
tissue formation in her mouth, all of which contribute to the risks
of infection and GI stasis. When she first started having trouble,
she was in serious condition quickly. I took her to four vets
who barely looked at her and said "put her to sleep", leaving
her another day without help and me with a growing sense of dread,
helplessness and impending grief. When I took her to Dr.
Doolen, he smiled and said "Oh, there is definitely light at the
end of this tunnel" - the burst of hope I felt was indescribable,
and that along with the quality of the care she has had is worth
anything that has happened since or to come. It's been well over a
year since the other vets told me there was no hope for
her. The staff
at Oakhurst Veterinary understands how
quickly rabbits can crash and they are always good about giving us
help as soon as possible (those of you who have rabbits know
how it is - one day they can be just fine, then a little
off, then in serious trouble, and there is nothing worse than
hearing someone say "you'll have to wait until a week from Tuesday,
we're busy" when you know you just don't have that long). We have
to drive two hours to get there, but it's worth it and the
staff usually finds a way to work with us since she needs
to come in often and we sometimes have trouble getting
time off from work again to bring her in. Our thanks to Tracy,
Dr. Fanders, Lisa, and the many other people there who have helped
us. Even when she is very ill and we are tired, upset and
afraid of bad news, just seeing Dr. Doolen walk in the door gives
us a sense of reassurance and confidence that no matter what
happens we can trust him to give her the best treatment possible.
Dr. Doolen always takes time to talk to us, he answers our
questions and offers suggestions, he's patient and
confident, he has impressive credentials (and doesn't get all
snobby about it like some folks), and he is not afraid to tell you
the pros and cons. We always leave feeling informed and empowered
about her care and condition and grateful to have the care of
such an incredible veterinarian. (It's hard to find a rabbit
savvy vet, for birds and reptiles and other exotics as well -
Dr. Doolen has quite the faithful following). Dr. Doolen, you never treat Tabby or Reuben as if
they are "just a rabbit", but very much like the loved and loving
little lives and personalities that they are. Through the past year
and more of visit after visit, our trust and respect for you grows.
We know that a day will come when we may not be able to help her,
and that will be a hard day indeed, but it will come with the
knowledge that she has had the best attention and care available,
and that is thanks to you. Until then, there she is - a little
moth-eaten, still with her bad days, but with so many more good
ones. This bunny supposed to be gone more than a year ago,
running and jumping and leaping in the air, enjoying her food
and snuggling with Reuben, nudging us to be petted and kissed,
bravely putting up with shots and visits to "that man" who makes
it all possible - there she is, tummy to the sun, and for that
we love you and thank you. Tracy & Matthew Hanks |

I've put off writing this since
June 2005 as it was too difficult before now. I've been dealing
with your office (since 1980) even before Drs. Wefer and Delaney
bought the practice (1986). Dr. Joe (Millar) was wonder and kind.
Dr. Harry did the right thing in selling the practice and retiring
to Florida. I've been happy with the practice since 1986. I'm one
of the crazy people who had 5 dogs and 2 cats. Kept wanting to have
more to love. As my animals grew older, Dr. Wefer, especially, was
always there with his wisdom and caring, letting me know each and
every time that I would know "when it was time". Each "time" it was
difficult and knew that Dr. Wefer understood and cared about my
loss. Each time I had a loss, I filled the void with yet another
dog. |
I
continued to do this until several years ago when I returned to the
workforce. One by one my babies left me until only one was left.
I've been very fortunate as the care of OVH allowed me to have my
babies until they reached ripe old ages of 14 to 17 years. And then
there was one, my Bambi, a small Yorkshire Terrier who remained the
most attached to me. She grew old (17 years) and
frail. Then I
met Dr. Christman. He, too, said I would know "when it was time". I
continue to be amazed by all the doctors' warmth and caring, but
was totally taken back by Dr. Christman. I felt that he, too, had
lost someone special when I had to "make the decision." He made
those moments special and I didn't feel alone. He even took the
time to walk me to my car. Every doctor that came in contact with
my Bambi made her feel special and made a fuss. Dr. Christman just
merely took the caring one step further. Drs. Wefer and Delaney,
one of your best decisions was to invite Dr. Christman to the
practice. He emulates your philosophy of loving all the animals the
hospital treats. I've been
to many "vets" over my lifetime, from Pennsylvania to Atlantic City
to Cherry Hill and another vet in Ocean Township, as well, and have
never met a more sympathetic, caring and knowledgeable staff as the
one at OVH. I've felt so secure with the services of the hospital
and staff over the years, that I "broke down" TWICE and just took
on two more puppies (a Pekingese named Pumpkin and a small
Pomeranian named Peanut). I couldn't have made this decision
without the security of knowing that I have OVH there when I need
it. You've
been with me at the best of times and the worst of times. I'm
looking forward to a continued wonderful relationship between my
Pumpkin and Peanut and all of the great doctors at OVH. THANK
YOU! Sherry

Everyone at Oakhurst
Veterinary Hospital, I just wanted to take the time to
thank the doctors and staff for their hard work and kind words. I
have only been to your office a few times and each time I felt like
I was with members of my own family! Everyone is so friendly,
patient, not to mention extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I will
continue to highly recommend your office to other animal lovers
like myself! :) Thanks again! Elizabeth

Dear Drs. Delaney,
Wefer and the entire medical staff, the entire O.R. Team, all the
hospital nurses and techs and all the office
staff, We find ourselves again
thanking all of you for your loving and expert care of Bailey. We
pulled off a miracle almost 2 years ago with the leptospirosis, and
we were able to have her back, more like a puppy than ever. Last
month you were able to pull off a miracle again during her
splenectomy, and you gave us some time to adjust to her disease and
spend some added quality time with her. Although she just didn’t
have another miracle in her, you cared so lovingly for her that we
fell she passed comfortably and without stress. That is our
greatest consolation! Thank you for all the hugs you gave her, all
the kind words you spoke to her, and all the love you showed her!
Thank you for all your kindness to our family, the beautiful card
you sent, and especially her pawprint, it was all so very
much appreciated. Thank you, The

To All Who I Loved at
Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital, I am sorry to have upset you
yesterday for I know you were very sad to see me leave my home for
dog heaven. Please know that I loved you. You were always so very
kind to me the many times I came to you for help during my illness.
You gave me the very best care and love. Dr. Wefer and Dr.
LoGiudice, thank you for working so hard for your successful effort
to make me better. Your expert care added years to my life, far
beyond what many expected. Please thank the other doctors who also
helped me live as good a life as could possibly be expected. Lisa, I am sorry that I made you
cry yesterday but I had tears in my heart knowing that I would
never see your smile and the smiles of the other staff again. I
always liked coming to the hospital for I knew I was getting the
best of care from people who truly love animals. I also liked
getting treats from all of you! Please do not be sad when you
think of me. I had a very good life and was lucky to be adopted
from a shelter in upstate New York by a family who loved me very
much. Whenever you have a dog or any animal that comes to you with
what appears to be a hopeless illness, think of me and how well I
did because of your heartfelt care. I know that other dogs will
have a better life because of you, the ones I loved. Love and a
Lick, Taylor Dalton (PS - Toby, Rose & Beau send
their love) |
Colleen, Thank you so much for giving
such tender care to "Spokes." Dana and I drew lots of comfort from
knowing you and Dr. Christman were caring for him. We know he was
given the best by coming to see you. Spoke’s wonderful spirit will
live on in our memories and through his big brother "Jib." We’ll
always remember how good you were to Spokes and how helpful you
were to Dana and me. Thank you for being so
loving and caring, Wendy and Dana

Dear Staff of
Oakhurst Veterinary, I am writing you about our
little girl named "Sammie" and the very special doctor who took
care of her. Although we only found you several months before we
lost our adored Sammie, it was obvious at that first moment we had
just me the man who would see us through the most difficult journey
of our lives. As I think back to that first meeting, you quickly
learned that Sammie was our love, the child we never could have,
the shining light in our lives, the sparkle that made every day
beautiful and special. It was the first day we met you that you had
the unpleasant task of telling us our beloved Sammie as very ill
and the prognosis was very grim. You told us of the treatments
available, and Marty and I chose the least radical route for our 15
year old puppy. We did not want to have our baby have a trying
time, at what we knew was to be the end of along and wonderful
life. You discussed all our options in a kind and gentle way. You
treated Sammie as if she were your own and treated Marty and I like
family members. I wonder if you know how much your kindness and
gentle caring ways helped Marty and I to prepare to lose our little
treasure. I recall one night shortly
after meeting you the phone rang and it was you. You just called to
see how "our girl Sammie was doing." The kindness in your voice
told me you were calling to see how we were all doing. It was the
first time a doctor had called for no other reason but to see how
we were all doing. We were suffering so and your support helped
relieve our pain. You treated Sammie for several months and Marty
and I were so impressed at the end when you told us to take Sammie
home and give her "lots of love and care." You knew no further
treatment was necessary and we were very grateful that we had your
continued support. We respect you so much for that
decision. We brought our baby home and
had her for another few months. You were there for us every step of
the way. Your kindness and wonderful care gave us several more
months to cherish and really spoil our Sammie girl (not that we had
not done that for 15 years). It was time to love her every minute.
We thank you so much for the extra time we had with her. We know it
was your dedicated attention that gave us this additional time with
Sammie. We lost our Bichon Frise on
December 14th 2005. She just came home to us today. We
chose to have Sammie cremated. She was such a wonderful star that
we had to bring her home. I hope some of these words have conveyed
how very grateful we are. I can’t help but think how lucky all the
pets are that have you as their veterinarian. Perhaps after Marty
and I heal we will get another pet. Be assured if we do we will be
knocking at your door. Many, many, many
thanks, Marty and Vivian

Please add me to the long list of
appreciative "parents" of your patients. Lithium just turned
17 on March 19, 2006 and I have Dr. L to thank for
that! |
She has treated him for his thyroid disorder for approximately 2
years now - and for nearly a year for his chronic kidney
failure. She has managed to bring him back from the brink of
death to a happy cat. Lithium doesn't seem to know he's
sick or that he's a (very) senior citizen! With his age I
know time is against us, but with a lot of prayers, and even
more love, along with Dr. L's expertise, I believe he will be here
for quite a while to come. Thank you Lori for the care
and concern you give Lithium on his monthly visits, thank you Stacy
for your ability to handle my Lithium for his blood draws, thank
you Erika for helping me with Lithium whenever it's been needed,
and, of course, the biggest thank you of all goes to Dr.
LoGiudice for your knowledge and compassion that has kept Lithium
with us. He is enjoying quality life because of
you. Every day he is with us is a true gift - I love him (and
Sable) so much - they are my 4-legged, furry babies! So I
will continue to give him lots of love, many prayers and provide
the best medical care by taking him to you each
month. It has been a winning combination so far! I'd also like to let Dr. Christman & Dr. Rawlins know that it
is comforting that they know who Lithium is even though Lithium has
only been attended by each one of them only once. I feel
good knowing that if Dr. L isn't available, and Lithium needs
medical attention, he will be cared for by doctors that also know
him. Thanks to Erika for that! :) Thanks for giving Lithium his 17th birthday! He got off to a
healthy start at Oakhurst when he was just 8 weeks old! Lynn Ireland |
Dr. Wefer, Thank you so very much for taking such good care

with affection anyway. I’d also like to thank your technicians for
their attentiveness to Oreo, and the wonderful staff at the main
desk for patiently answering my questions over and over! Thanks again, Rochelle

Dear Sandy, Words can’t express how much I appreciated all
you have done for me and Amanda (Lilly too). I know each time she
was in the hospital she had the best medical care possible but also
lots of love and attention from everyone. It’s very comforting to
me knowing she was so well cared for. |
Amanda was so sweet and beautiful and she
brought me so much joy and happiness. I was very lucky to have her
in my life for almost 19 years. I miss her very much. She truly
deserved only the bet and I know she had that at Oakhurst. I can’t thank you enough for coming over on your
day off to help me through a very difficult time. Lori, Tomi, and Lauren were so kind and
compassionate to me. And of course, Dr. Wefer was so patient and
understanding with me too. Amanda was treated with such respect and
given so much love. The entire staff, (I can’t name them all) has
all been so good to me when I came to visit her. I just can’t thank
them enough. People like yourself are rare and special. The
entire staff at Oakhurst is also very special. I am blessed to have
you in my life. Also I am very thankful to Dr. LoGiudice and Dr.
Christman for their expert care, patience and kindness with me and
Amanda. They too are very special doctors who treated Amanda with
much love and kindness. Also a special thanks to Kathy, Lisa, Shannon,
Jeanette, and all the other girls who graciously took my many daily
phone calls. Thank you again. Love,Mickey |
Dear Oakhurst Staff, You were fantastic this morning! Mietze (sounds
like pizza) had a wonderful first-time doctor's visit because of
you. I just want to thank Dr. Zinna and the assistants that helped
the two of us have a calm
experience. I appreciate the help of cleaning out her carry
case because she had urinated. I appreciate the care with
which you showed my "little girl" and me! Thanks!! We will see you in two weeks for a follow-up
visit regarding her ear infection. Sincerly, Cathleen Cotgreave |
Dear Dr. Rawlins & Staff, We just want to say thanks for the care and kindness you have
shown "Bert" over these past few years. You have all been wonderful
& we will miss seeing you! Sincerely, Pam Francis |
Dear Dr. LoGiudice, Dr. Wefer, Dr. Delaney and the Oakhurst Veterinary Staff,
We can never Thank You enough for all the love and wonderful care you have given our family of pets over these many years. We are retired now and living in Connecticut where we grew up, along with our kitties and among our relatives. New Jersey was our home for almost 30 years, and will always hold many happy memories for us. We love you like family, and will miss you all very much. Saying Goodbye is really hard to do. Your love and compassion helped us get through all the sad times, and we will always treasure the good times we shared. Words cannot express our deep gratitude for all that you’ve done for us and our beloved pets, and continue to do for so many others fortunate enough to be loved and cared for by all of you. For that we love you.
Hope to see you all in the near future.
With Much Love,
Paul & Dianne Kurko and family
Jake, Rocket, Pumpkin & Samantha |

Dear Lauren, We can’t tell you how much your care and
affection for Bear helped him and our family. It was painful for us
all, but knowing that you were there with him through his illness
was truly relieving for us. Please accept our thanks and know that
we’ll always be in your debt. You are an honor to your profession and to
those of us who consider our pets part of our family. Love, The Sylvias |

Dear Dr.
Delaney, Lexie was a sweet girl whom we loved
very much. No words can express our sorrow or how grateful we are
for your kindness and counsel the night of February 1st.
The card received just a few days later is another example of your
thoughtful ways. Over the last 13 years, on the occasion
when Lexie needed an annual checkup (in the early years) or later
on when the visits became more frequent, your entire staff was
wonderful. The atmosphere was always friendly and welcoming, yet
professional. And so….to the women at the front desk, and to the
techs behind the scenes, and to all the doctors who have treated
Lexie and especially you Dr. Delaney, we say thank you! Sincerely, John and Liz Saffioti |

Dear Dr.
Doolen, Today I received a thoughtful Birthday
Greeting for one of our doves (what a GREAT idea!!! ) and it
reminded me of all of the times we've been helped over
the years at Oakhurst. I just had to write and share just
how thankful I am that if a problem develops with ANY of our
pets all I have to do is call and the girls at the front desk will
bring us right in if it can't wait, even on a Sunday morning,
or ask the necessary questions to determine when we should come in.
Our latest visit was last September, not for one of our six
doves, but for one of our two white mice." Marshmallow “
was quite sick, not eating, unable to fall asleep for long, and
with terrible gastrointestinal problems. Dr. Doolen greeted
her with affection and warmth like he does with all of his
patients, whether they are tiny rodents costing $1.25
like" Marshmallow", rescued ring neck turtle doves, or
fancy talking birds. His caring bedside manner, even with
a white mouse, is unsurpassed. I was afraid that she was incurable
but after doing some lab tests he assured me this was not the case.
I was overwhelmed when he told me that she would need 2 different
antibiotics orally twice a day- I told him that I was not capable
of giving them to a mouse. He calmly, and with a little humor as he
knows I am MORE than quick to panic, told me that he was sure
I could do it for "Marshmallow". He said that he would teach me
right there and I would be fine at home to give the meds. He did
just that with his usual patience (and he is NEVER
condescending). He showed me just how to administer the two
different antibiotics, each in a separate syringe, one at a
time, into the tiny mouth. Because HE gave me the
confidence I was able to do what had to be done to get
"Marshmallow" better. I got all of the medicine into her over the
required days and she was as good as new a couple of days after
that. The wonderful thing about Dr. Doolen is that he
gives the same quality of treatment to whoever it is that we love,
whether it be a rodent, dove, rabbit or turtle, just
like the book says," All creatures great and small". And for this
kind of care at Oakhurst I am grateful. Sincerely, Donna Smith |
