Pet Loss

OVH Memorial Page

At Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital we understand the pain of losing a beloved pet.

To memorialize your pet on our site, please submit a photo and a few words and we will post the tribute here.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

"Pache"

You came into our lives one Christmas morning. Your Daddy fell in love with you at first sight, then we had a little convincing to do to Mommy but she saw you walk out with that cute little red bow on your head and that was it. She couldn't resist you! You loved your squeekie toys so much and loved your cookies so much you would hide them so nobody could find them like it were your bone. You'd dig n dig in a corner of the carpet to hide that cookie and if one of us saw you, you'd pick it up and put it in another hiding spot till you were ready to eat it.

Christmas time...you'd sit there in front of your stocking till someone would give you your stocking and make sure nobody else got near it. We will miss you this Christmas but we won't forget you. You always knew just which stocking was yours because of your treats but it didn't matter you would sit there till we got a toy or a treat out for you. You made our Christmas's very special!!!

As you were getting older... you had trouble walking, then you became sick so we tried to get you better. Dr. Wefer did all he could to help you become better but it didn't work. May 2007, we were left with a choice none of us could bare. We cried and cried forever, still crying at times. We did what was best for you and miss you everyday, every minute. There isn't a day that goes by that our hearts don't ache to have you back. We miss the silly things you did and the love you brought into our hearts.

We miss you so much but we know you're out of pain and in doggie heaven now. The 12 years we had with you we will treasure forever and enjoyed every minute and everyday with you.

We will always and forever love "our Pache" !!!

Love,
Daddy, Mommy, Kim & Sue

Angel

You came into our lives one winter day when our daughter cried to have you. You were the cutest, most playful puppy. You filled our home and hearts with joy and love. Our home was your castle. Then it was time for God to call you home, and we all cried. We thanked our daughter for crying to get you. You live in our hearts until we’re together again.

Love you and miss you,

Your family, Tony, Cleo, Gina, Danielle, and Hanna Bella

Callie

We are eternally grateful for the opportunity to have found Callie, our Princess. Callie was a truly special friend and an integral part of our family. When we lost her on March 29, 2005, our hearts ached. Yet, when we looked back on the seven years we had with her, we realized that not only did she enhance our lives, but we bettered hers, as well.

Callie was a Springer Spaniel/Border Collie mix, and was adopted from the Monmouth County SPCA when she was approximately 6 ½ years old. She was the most affectionate, calm and caring friend that a family could have. The only thing that she "nudged" about was her daily need for a car ride. Whether it was around the block or off to the super market, the car was her favorite spot to be.Callie went blind on Christmas Eve, 2004 due to severe Glaucoma. She later developed other illnesses, and was in pain and discomfort. Despite her travails, she remained loving and loyal to the end.

The staff of Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital has, throughout the years, been invaluable in her care. Your loving, caring and state of the art services were vital in enabling us to have Callie for as long as we did, and we are eternally grateful. A few weeks ago, we returned to the SPCA and found Katie, a Golden Retriever/Black Lab/Rottie mix. She is a four month old pup, a complete opposite of Callie, but a sweetheart nonetheless. No one can replace Callie, but Katie is now helping to fill the void left by Callie’s passing. If there is a doggie heaven, I’m sure Callie is waiting for the sound of God’s car keys. Thank you all with all our hearts.

Coda

April 19, 2004 - January 12, 2005

I wanted to thank you all for the hard work, care, and compassion you exhibited to my best bunny friend Coda and I.

Coda was a stray found wandering around the Staten Island Zoo, most likely another Easter "throw-away". After only a few months of having Coda she needed to be spayed in order to rid her of a possible cancer. Not knowing any better, I brought Coda to my "local" vet and was told they were the only ones who saw rabbits. Unfortunately, the rabbit vet did not do the surgery, his partner did. Coda was sent home to me with a clean bill of health, but x-rays taken later would reveal that there was a big problem during surgery. 3 months after her spay, Coda was fighting for her life.

X-rays revealed 13 surgical clips, each with a possible adhesion around them. Dr. Doolen and Dr. Fanders did all they could to stabilize and treat Coda. Coda was improving and we were able to have a Christmas together. Only a week after New Years, Coda had relapsed and it was with a heavy heart that I knew she had had enough. Coda has become my mascot for the "Easter throw-away syndrome". In order to help pay for all of Coda's medical costs I began a company I call "Cookies for Coda". Taking special requests from friends, family, and coworkers each bag of cookies was wrapped with a picture of Coda and a reminder that we all can help. Coda stands for strength, love, and compassion. I will do everything in my power to educate people about proper rabbit care and help others realize that rabbits are NOT TOYS to be thrown away when you are bored with them. Coda I love you sooo much and know you are watching over all the bunny babies who need a guardian angel.

Love, Heather (AKA: MOM)

Bailey

Dear Drs. Delaney, Christman, Wefer and the entire medical staff, the entire O.R. Team, all the hospital nurses and techs and all the office staff,

We find ourselves again thanking all of you for your loving and expert care of Bailey. We pulled off a miracle almost 2 years ago with the leptospirosis, and we were able to have her back, more like a puppy than ever. Last month you were able to pull off a miracle again during her splenectomy, and you gave us some time to adjust to her disease and spend some added quality time with her. Although she just didn’t have another miracle in her, you cared so lovingly for her that we fell she passed comfortably and without stress. That is our greatest consolation! Thank you for all the hugs you gave her, all the kind words you spoke to her, and all the love you showed her! Thank you for all your kindness to our family, the beautiful card you sent, and especially her pawprint, it was very much appreciated.

Thank you,

The Bermensolos

Patches

Patches came into my life when I purchased her and another female "Misty" from Petco on August 27th 2004. She stole my heart as soon as I spotted her in the rat display. She was a fun and very loving girl and brought so much joy to me over her short life. Unfortunately I was not aware that she was developing a fatal respiratory disease and by the time symptoms showed it was too late to save her. Dr Fanders did all she could and Patches looked like she might pull through but even with the best care she still passed away on March 3rd 2006.

Patches I will miss you forever, Bob

Pete

Pete came to me when I worked at a pet store. I saw several parrotlets come through and none caught my attention quite like Pete did. He was the most energetic and also the most cuddly and sweet. I knew he had to be mine so I eventually bought him. We spent a good two years together and I cherish every moment we had. Then tragedy struck and Pete was diagnosed with metal poisoning. Dr. Doolen and Dr. Fanders did all they could to help Pete and to make him as comfortable as possible. I thank them for all of the care and compassion they showed me. I will always miss Pete but will never stop loving him.

Hope

Hope was such a sweet and gentle soul. She came to our door late one hot August Saturday night in 2002. As soon as we let her in, we realized that she was emaciated and extremely ill. Since it was after 11 pm, we took her to Tinton Falls where we learned that she had FIV and may need to be put to sleep. Broken hearted but determined to give her the best chance for life, we brought her to Oakhurst the following Monday morning. As soon as we walked in the door, we were greeted with smiles and a genuine concern for Hope’s well being. Dr. LoGiudice was optimistic about Hope’s condition and said that she did not have to be put to sleep. We were so relieved and so happy. For the next 3 ½ years, Hope was the joy of our life. We couldn’t ask for a more affectionate, caring, and absolutely perfect cat. She got along well with our cockatiels Charlie and Patsy and our lovebird Gabby. She even let them walk on her from time to time. She was always a gracious hostess when guests came over, and she was so cooperative when we had to give her medication, which sadly was often. In her short little life, she truly was an inspiration to us and to everyone who met her. We are grateful for the time we had with her, and we will love and miss her deeply for the rest of our lives.

We wanted to thank everyone at Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital for taking such good care of Hope. From the first moment we brought her to you till the very last, you were supportive, understanding, and above all, gentle with her. Dr. LoGiudice helped us through countless minor and major crises, and we feel that Hope lived a longer and better life because of the care and love she received. Hope was our precious little angel, and every time she was at Oakhurst, she was always treated with love, compassion, and kindness. Everyone’s shared sadness over her death touched us in a way that helped heal part of our soul. Her loss was so devastating, yet we realized that she had touched so many lives, and though she was only with us for a short time, she will be remembered for a lifetime. Our gratitude to you is eternal and that is not an understatement. You are the ones who take care of our little babies when we are not able to, and for that, you are truly blessed and very much appreciated and needed.

Sincerely,

Maribeth and Vinnie Corona-Evans

Charlie & Patsy

Losing both Charlie and Patsy this year was truly devastating; they were our little sweetie pies, our little beams of sunshine. Every time we came to Oakhurst, they were taken care of with love and with a sincere and unending desire for their well being. Dr. Doolen helped us through every egg and hormone crisis and pulled them through two serious crises last year. His dedication, expertise, and miracle ability allowed us to have more time with them, and we are very thankful for that time.

Charlie and Patsy were the unlikeliest of friends. Charlie was the older, more mature cockatiel who liked to contemplate the stars whereas Patsy was the younger, less serious cockatiel who liked to hang upside down pretending she was a bat. It took a little time, but they slowly started to bond and then depend upon each other for entertainment, companionship, and sister talk. They became the center of our family and filled our days with a constant re-education on the beautiful and mysterious ways of the cockatiel.

This year we also lost our beautiful cat Hope who used to participate in their daily bird rituals and loved them as much as we did. We miss our little multi-species family tremendously, but there is comfort in knowing that they are now all together in Heaven. They were sisters in every sense of the word and were connected from the first day they met. They were our precious little angels who always gave us joy, laughter, and peace. There are no words to express how grateful we are to everyone at Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital for the warmth and support that was given to us in the wake of their deaths. Thank you for caring for them and for making their lives and ours better.

Sincerely,

Maribeth and Vinnie Corona-Evans

Nibbles

Our Netherland Dwarf Bunny

In memory of our baby girl Nibbles, your time with us was too short. You came to us when you needed the most care and attention.

You were bright, loving, and full of humorous surprises. You had an incredible will to survive even against all odds. You made our lives so much richer by being a part of it.

Not a day goes by that we don't think about you and your sweet kisses. Words cannot express how much Mommy and Daddy miss you. See you at the Rainbow Bridge where we will be together forever.

We wish to thank Dr. Doolen and Dr. Fanders for everything they did to help our great little bunny, and especially for their compassion and love for every pet that visits the hospital. God bless them both.

Carolyn and Doug Krok
