Intensive Veterinary Care for Monmouth County Pets

Veterinary Intensive Care at Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital

Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital is equipped with a state-of-the-art intensive care unit for the treatment of pets that are under exceptional physical stress due to illness, injury, or surgical recovery.

Our intensive care unit is centrally located within our treatment area so that pets are under constant supervision. Animals that are recovering from illness or injury are more sensitive to environmental changes and their systems must be more closely monitored as they recover.

Recovery progress is continually monitored and vital statistics are documented continuously so any patterns over time can be noted. Some of the vital statistics we monitor for all ICU patients include:

  • Pain status
  • Body temperature
  • Body weight
  • Hydration
  • Heart functioning
  • Pulse
  • Blood oxygen content

Patients who are in need receive the benefit of our advanced treatment technology as well, including:

  • Climate control
  • Warmed cages
  • Oxygen enrichment
  • IV fluid pumps

We encourage pet visitation. We want you to see that your pet is receiving the very best care.

We encourage clients to visit their pets in the ICU at any time. Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital believes that pet owners should see the care their pet is receiving and should participate in the recovery process. We find that owners can often detect when a pet is feeling better before we can by noticing the subtle changes in behavior.

We hope your pet never needs our intensive care unit facility, but Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital’s experienced doctors and staff are committed to providing the best possible care and monitoring for a speedy recovery should your pet need it.
