Intensive Veterinary Care
Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital houses a state-of-the-art intensive care unit for pets under exceptional physical stress due to illness, injury, or surgical recovery.
Because animals in recovery are more sensitive to environmental changes, their systems must be monitored more closely. That’s why our intensive care unit is centrally located to ensure constant supervision by our caring staff.
For every patient, vital statistics are tracked and recorded so any patterns over time can be noted. Information we collect includes:
- Pain status
- Body temperature
- Body weight
- Hydration
- Heart function
- Pulse
- Blood oxygen content
Some patients may also require our advanced treatment technology, which includes:
- Climate control
- Warmed cages
- Oxygen enrichment
- IV fluid pumps
Visiting Your Pet in the Hospital
For more than 30 years, Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital has maintained an open visitation policy. This means that we encourage clients to see their pets at any time during their stay in our hospital. While we prefer afternoon or evening visits, any time that our office is open is acceptable for visitation.
We want you to know how your pet is being treated and that we are doing everything possible to keep him or her comfortable. We believe pet owners should participate in the recovery process, and we find that owners can often detect when a pet is feeling better before we can by noticing subtle changes in behavior. At Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital, there are no behind-the-scenes secrets, just caring, concerned people.
We hope your pet never needs our emergency or critical care services, but should the need arise, our team is prepared to care for your cat or dog. If you are concerned about your pet’s condition or are unsure about the need for emergency care, please do not hesitate to call us.
