Dr. Wefer was born and raised in Jersey City where early on he set his sights on a career in veterinary medicine. After 4 years at Cook College (Rutgers University), he went on to complete his veterinary degree at Purdue University in Indiana in 1982. He and his wife, Renee, moved to Ocean Township in 1986 when the Delaney’s and the Wefer’s purchased the hospital from Dr. Harry Millar. They raised their 2 girls and provided a loving home to numerous pets of all species over the years – including a trio of backyard chickens who provided a small, but homemade fresh daily breakfast.
Outside the office, Dr. Wefer enjoys traveling with Renee, spending time with his family, working in their yard and trying desperately to break 80 on the golf course (he’s afraid that goal might be too ambitious these days). Although some of his loyal clients have accused him of semi-retiring, Dr. Wefer still enjoys going to the office and seeing his clients who have been coming to OVH for decades. When asked about retirement… “I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t do what I’m doing now”, he says with a wink.
