Dr. Riggio was born and raised in Hazlet, NJ. At a very young age she had a strong passion for the care of animals. She often fostered numerous stray kittens and dogs and even rehabilitated eastern box turtles. After working as a veterinary technician for 6 years she graduated with her BS in small animal science from Rutgers University in 2013. After graduating, Dr. Riggio packed three very large, overweight bags and moved to St. Kitts to pursue her D.V.M at Ross University. Her last clinical year of veterinary school was spent at The Ohio State University, graduating with highest honors in January 2018.
Dr. Riggio joined the Oakhurst Vet Hospital as an associate veterinarian in February 2018. She loves caring for and bonding with pets and their owners. Dr. Riggio has a soft spot for pit bull terriers and has two pit bull mixes of her own. Henry/Ham, a 10 year old pit/boxer mix who is wise beyond his years. He enjoys barking at squirrels and likes to think of himself as a professional swimmer. (He even dives off the diving board!). Hudson aka Huddy/pork chop, is a 5 year old pit/lab mix who is an anxious pup who enjoys eating and has zero understanding of the term “personal space”. She also owns 5 eastern box turtles of ages 3 to ~30 years (Boxer, Max, Mims, Quasimodo, Brutus) and a bearded dragon named Drogon.
Dr. Riggio has interest in internal medicine and preventative care, as well as surgery. She also enjoys practicing Fear Free medicine to help alleviate anxiety associated with veterinary visits. When not working, Dr. Riggio enjoys spending time outdoors, baking and spending time with her large family. Dr. Riggio recently married her high school sweetheart John in Ocean, NJ.
