Diagnostic Ultrasounds

An ultrasound is a highly useful tool when evaluating heart conditions, internal organs, cysts and tumors.

When Would My Pet Need an Ultrasound?

An ultrasound is essential for assessing heart health and detecting changes in abdominal organs, as well as identifying cysts and tumors. It is typically recommended when our doctors notice abnormalities in bloodwork or X-rays, or when monitoring disease progression. Additionally, ultrasounds provide real-time monitoring for pregnancy and development.

How Does Ultrasound Testing Work?

Ultrasound machines use high-frequency sound waves to create images of the tissues. These sound waves either pass through or reflect off tissues, generating echoes that are then converted into a 2D image displayed on a monitor. This real-time imaging allows for immediate evaluation of results.

The procedure is painless, though light sedation may be used to keep your pet comfortable. Your pet’s fur may be shaved in the area of interest to ensure clear imaging.

At Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital, we use ultrasound technology in collaboration with board-certified radiologists, surgeons, and specialists to ensure comprehensive and precise diagnostic care.
